Currently our core business is to provide assistance to architects, consewrvators and structural engineers in their investigations of historic structures during the design phase for restoration and renovation projects.

Our services include comparative and conceptual budgets for planning, services for consultation on materials selection, availability and substitution, availability of appropriate traditional trades, team building, skills training as well as evaluation of construction feasibility and ROI.

We are known in the preservation industry as the people that know everyone.

Brief History: Ken Follett

Experience during the 1970’s in construction of traditional masonry fireplaces in upstate NY. In late 1970’s and early 1980’s became involved in project management in the Washington, DC area (including exterior restoration of the Marine Commandant’s residence). Relocated to Westchester, NY, then to Brooklyn and then Long Island.

Worked on restoration of Staten Island Lighthouse, then on George Rogers Clark National Historical Monument in Vincennes, Indiana (1984, Harlow Restoration). Worked for 2.5 years as Clerk of the Works on $20M renovation of 3 bus depots at NYC Transit project in Harlem (1985-1986 Thomason Industries).

As former executive vice-president and partner (1987-2003) of Apple Restoration & Waterproofing, Inc., a specialty restoration-contracting firm, Mr. Follett was actively involved in the varied tasks of marketing, estimating, business development and project management on small and large historic preservation and exterior maintenance related projects. Varied exterior envelope and heritage conservation projects ranged from $20,000 to $6M in scope.

Review and writing of business correspondence and reports.

Network and market development with dream team project leadership. Condition surveys, project documentation and management. Construction specification review with construction logic and feasibility analysis Strategic planning and small business development in the historic preservation industry.

Specific experience in masonry restoration, terra cotta, cast iron, slate and metal roofing, window restoration, historic woodwork, art installations, sculpture conservation and skill set training and development.

Active in the construction and contract business for more than thirty-five years, with specific experience in historic conservation, exterior façade maintenance and waterproofing for the last twenty-five.

Our local geographic range includes NYC (all boroughs), Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Past projects, primarily in the NYC environment, have included work at Carnegie Hall, Grand Central Terminal (Bovis/LaSalle Partners), West Point Military Academy, City Center, New Amsterdam Theater (Tishman/Disney), Horace Greeley Barn, Chrysler Building, General Motors Building, Cable Building, Huntington Hilton, Neiman Marcus (White Plains, NY), Edison Building #11 relocation (Edison Foundation/NPS), and the award winning restoration of the Barnes & Noble headquarters at NYC Union Square (awards from Municipal Art Society, Victorian Society, and NYS Parks –SHPO 1996).
